HYC in lockdown — April Update

From our bubble to yours, the team here at HYC wishes you and your family well despite the current lockdown situation. We hope that you are all staying safe and staying home!  Read below to find out what the Howick Youth Council has in store for you in the next couple of weeks!

Digital Youth Council Update

The move to Alert Level 4 in the fight against COVID-19 has been a sudden and unexpected upheaval to everyone's daily life — no less to the youth in our community. That's why we've teamed up with the East Auckland Schools head students (EAS) to deliver a message of reassurance alongside our planned digital activities for the lockdown period.

Our regular weekly meetings are still going ahead (virtually of course!) through Zoom. We've been working hard to produce engaging content for youth on our social media channels, with a strong focus on Instagram.

This resulted in a successful Lockdown Bingo, and a great turn out of 76 participants at our first digital event — Wednesday Weeklies: Kahoot Quiz night.

Visual Arts Showcase - Signups + Giveaway on now!

For its third year running, HYC’s Visual Arts Showcase is back for 2020!

We want to give the young artists in our community the opportunity to show off their work — whether it be painting, sculpture, animation, photography, mixed media, or more.

What better way to spend time during lockdown than to get your creative juices flowing? This year, we have introduced two main categories: Themed Art and Open Art. For the very first time, we are offering a chance to submit art that relates to the theme: ‘Modern and Traditional Connection’. Check out the link below for more details and a chance to display your artwork at the Malcolm Smith Gallery at Howick's Uxbridge Arts & Culture Centre.

Sign-ups are now open until 17th May! More details + sign up here

Want to win a $25 Prezzy Card? Know some talented artists? Check out the links below to be in to win!  Link to Instagram Contest, Link to Facebook Contest

Wednesday Weeklies - Kahoot and Connect

Know the difference between Muggles and Squibs? How about the names of all of the 7 Dwarves? If so, join us for a night of Kahoot quizzes about Harry Potter, Disney, Tiktoks, and more over Zoom every Wednesday during the lockdown! ⁣

RSVP for Wednesday 8th April (8-9pm) through the button below or on our Instagram page to be invited to the Zoom call — we’d love to see you there! Link to register
