Waitangi Day, 2020

For all of us, Waitangi Day will be a chance to remember and reflect on who we are as New Zealanders, as well as to celebrate how far Aotearoa has come today.

As a country, we mark the 180th anniversary since the signing of Te Tiriti o Waitangi — 'the pou-tokomanawa in our wharenui, as a nation'.

Across Auckland, there are a dozen events happening which commemorate the day which you can learn more about here. If you're planning on staying home instead, these articles detail the complicated history behind the treaty and how they affect us to this day.

From all of us at HYC, we wish you a peaceful and reflective Waitangi Day.
